Year of the Snake in Durham!

Kung Hei Fat Choi – Happy Chinese New Year!

Join us at Walkergate for Durham’s annual celebration of the Chinese New Year on Saturday 1st February, 2025.

City visitors can enjoy a wonderful display to welcome the Year of the Snake: the traditional Lion Dance will be performed by Oceans Apart Kung Fu Club at locations around the city. The first performance will be in Durham Market Place at 12.30pm.

Come along to witness the Mayor of Durham doing her best to catch the lucky lettuce and bring good fortune to the city for the coming year!

The snake is said to symbolise wisdom, intuition and transformation – so follow your intuition and make the wise choice: there’s food and drink aplenty at Walkergate with venues including Nando’s, Rio Brazilian Steakhouse and ASK Italian, plus ticketless, secure car parking to transform your family day out in Durham into a trip to remember.
