Spirits for a Cause: Haunted Ghost Walk Raises Money for Charity

Ghost walk for charity, Durham

Spirits were high during two guided ghost walks in Durham on Sunday 27th October and Sunday 3rd November, where history, mystery and community came together for a great cause.

The team at Walkergate organised the events with Durham’s very own Ghost Whisperer, Andrew Ross. The two special walks raised £800 in funds for Moving On Durham, a local charity close to the heart of Walkergate. Moving On Durham helps those in County Durham who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness, and have been helping vulnerable young people find safe homes for over 30 years.

The sold-out tours brought together history enthusiasts, thrill-seekers and community supporters for a night of spine-tingling tales and charitable giving. Participants met outside The Bishops’ Mill at Walkergate before they set off on their two hour journey around the city.

Highlights of the ghost walks included paranormal hotspots, where guests were captivated by tales of some of Durham’s most famous spirits, including Jimmy Allen and Mary Ann Cotton. They also got to hear about sightings and strange happenings at local sites like Elvet Bridge and The Dun Cow Pub.

Andrew Ross, a finalist of the Durham Tourism Superstar 2024 awards, has been regaling visitors with spine-tingling stories of long-lost souls for a number of years, and these tours were no different.

Walkergate has been delighted with the overwhelming success of both events and the enthusiastic responses from guests. The £800 raised for charity will go directly to supporting the amazing work at Moving On Durham.
